It's important to hold on to the powerful spiritual lessons even after the smell of popcorn fades away. One way to make those lessons more meaningful is by discussing them as a family. To make that easier, below are some conversation starters your family can use to begin a dialog about what God is teaching you after each movie viewing.
The Greatest Showman
As P.T. Barnum's show grew in popularity, he lost sight of who he was, seeking fame and fortune at the expense of family and genuine friendship. What do you find your identity in that distracts you from the priorities of your faith, family and friends? What one thing can you do today (read your Bible, pray, etc.) to help you focus on finding your identity in Christ?
"I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10
Auggie is worried about starting school because of his unique appearance, but the Bible says we have all been uniquely designed by God to be used by God! What unique traits do you have? Do you embrace them or try to hide them? How can those traits be used to point others to God? Take time to celebrate a unique feature or personality trait of each member of your family.
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10
The gloomy troll, Branch, has lost his song. But the Bible says that with Christ, we have the power to find joy in ALL circumstances. What blessings can you count today? How does accounting for your blessings shape your daily perspective? If you are in a happy season today, thank God for it. If you are in a difficult season of life, ask God to help you find joy in it.
"Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises." James 5:13
Peter was so eager to join the big league and become an Avenger that he missed out on all the good he could do in his ordinary, daily life. In Matthew, we see that when we are first faithful with what we have been given, we will then be given more. What are the dreams God has planted in your heart? What seemingly mundane things (job, school, chores) in your life could God use for His purposes now?
"Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them." Matthew 13:12
