Read: “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12:10
If you’re ready to throw a few new logs onto the fire of your marriage, one of the first things you must do is pay attention. In marriage, God has given us a chance to discover things about our spouse that no one else will ever get to know. But in order to discover those things, we’ve got to pay attention - closely.
Husbands, your wife isn’t as hard to figure out as you may think. When you’re shopping, does she mention how cute she thinks something is, but would never get it for herself? Is the house full of vases that haven’t held fresh flowers in ages? When she stresses about a physical feature in the mirror, do you shower her with words of affirmation?
Wives, even though your husband might seem like the most confident person you know, on the inside, he has just as many insecurities as you do. And, the words you shower on him can either bring those insecurities to the forefront of his life, or they can bring a sense of safety to his fears. When was the last time you told him how handsome he was, like you did when you were first dating? Have you told him lately how much you appreciate the way he works to provide for your family?
There are so many ways to turn what you know about your spouse into ways to intentionally bless them. This week, make it a specific goal to show your spouse how much you’ve been paying attention.
Pray: God, thank you for all of the unique things that I get to learn about my spouse that no one else will ever get to. Help me pay attention and see all of the many different opportunities that You have given me to bless them. Thank you so much for my spouse. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
