Read Matthew 25
Today, we will spend our time looking at verses 14-30, where Jesus talks about the Parable of the Bags of Gold. Let’s refresh our memory before we get started. Jesus often used parables in the Bible to paint a picture of what he was trying to communicate, making it easier to understand.
Head
God gives each of us special gifts. Today's passage refers to these gifts as talents or money. Jesus tells the story of a master who gave his servants different amounts to manage while he was away. When he returned, he checked how the servants used what he gave them. Those who used their gifts wisely were praised; the one who hid his talent was not. The lesson is to recognize the gifts God has given you and use them to help others and make a difference.
Heart
For a long time, I didn’t feel like God had given me a unique talent or gift—anything to offer that would make a difference. Have you ever felt like that? The Bible tells us this isn’t true! We ALL have something from God that is special only to us, and He wants us to use it to help others and serve Him. If you struggle to know your gift, just ask Him to show you—He will! Then, allow Him to use you to serve and bless others.
Hands
God wants us to be like the wise servants who used their talents well. This week, choose one of your gifts or talents and intentionally find a way to use it to serve the Lord. Even if you feel nervous, remember that God blessed the wise servants for their faithfulness, and He will bless your efforts to serve Him as well.
Prayer: God, thank you for giving each of us a special gift. Continue to show us what that gift looks like in our lives and give us the courage to use it to serve you well. May we be like the wise servants in our story today. And may we hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
