Read: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
Now that we’ve reached the end of our month of devotions, we want to help you find your next step. Breaking free from the performance trap, an addiction to approval, the blame game or a cycle of shame can be difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone. The first step is to find someone in your life who you can be authentic with, who you can share your struggles with and who can help keep you on track. Whether it’s a friend, family member, coworker, or someone in your Growth Group, God places people in our life to walk alongside us in our walk of faith. Ask that person to pray for you, and to offer you encouragement when you need it. And, when it looks like you’re slipping back into old habits, give that person the ability to call you out and keep you on track.
Next, it’s much easier to keep God’s truths at the forefront of our minds if we’ve taken the time to memorize them. Throughout the Bible, we are told to meditate on God’s word, to hide it in our hearts. This week, take some time to memorize the following truths:
I am deeply loved by God (1 John 4:9-10)
I am completely forgiven and fully pleasing to God (Romans 5:1)
I am totally accepted by God (Colossians 1:21-22)
I am a new creation, absolutely complete in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
When we’re struggling, Satan loves to make us feel like we’re the only one who doesn’t have it together. The truth is, that is never, ever the case. Every Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. at The Hunt Club Campus, you can meet with a community of people who realize that it’s ok to not be ok. Recovery gives people a safe place to experience a life changed by Christ.
Pray: God, help me be brave enough to take my next step today. Thank You for the people You have placed in my life that can help guide me forward, and continue to let me meet people that can speak Your truth into my life. Thank You for helping me break free of the lies, and when times get tough, continue to remind me of Your truths. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
