Reading Plan:
Acts 8

Our Thoughts:
Do you find the Bible hard to understand? Do you often read Scripture only to find yourself lost in confusion? If so, you are not alone. In Acts 8, we find ourselves being able to relate to an Ethiopian eunuch who was being intentional with reading God’s Word but at a loss for its meaning. We see how he was eager to learn and graciously invited a man named Philip to join him on his journey to discuss the meaning behind this Scripture. Being open and receptive to the people God places in our paths can lead to the fulfilled life we have always wanted. In the case of this eunuch, it led to his baptism and commitment to Jesus.
Here is what I find interesting about this situation. We read in verse 27 that this man was returning from a trip to Jerusalem where he had gone to worship, but didn’t even know Jesus yet or understand Scripture. Traveling in those days was no easy task, but he made the effort to be there regardless. Can you relate? Do you find yourself attending church and not fully knowing why you are there? Have you heard that Jesus has all the answers, but when you read Scripture, you feel lost? If so, don’t give up! When you continue to seek God, he is faithful to be found.
We can learn so much from this Ethiopian eunuch. Going to church for corporate worship is important, but it’s not going to save you. It’s the daily choice of seeking God that determines our future. We see this eunuch diligent in reading God’s Word even when he didn’t fully understand it. This desire within him to learn and make sense of what he was reading moved God to act in a miraculous way. Through an encounter with an angel, we see that God placed Philip in the path of this eunuch to bring understanding and hope into his life through the good news of Jesus.
God sees the motives of our heart. He sees the desire to learn and understand His ways and He is faithful to move on our behalf because of it. Whatever has brought you to this devotional today, remember God saw the choice you made to read it. Take comfort in knowing He notices you. When questions arise in your heart, diligently seek Him and He will place a Philip in your path to bring clarity to His truth.

More Questions:
How are you intentionally seeking God on a daily basis?
Who has God placed in your path as a Philip to bring clarity to the truth of His Word?

Prayer:
Lord, help me to be intentional with my time each day. Help me to seek you with my entire heart and soul, and rest in knowing you are faithful to be found. Show me the people you have placed in my life as a means to know you better, and help me to listen well to the wisdom they provide.
