Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal...” Philippians 3:13-14
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
In a world filled with pressure to perform, compete, and compare, Paul speaks peace over the believer's journey. His challenge: let go of past failures and achievements, focus on what lies ahead in Christ, and live joyfully in the present...rooted in God’s peace.
Press On...Don’t Get Stuck in the Past (Phil. 3:12–14)
Paul, one of the greatest spiritual leaders, admitted he hadn’t arrived. Yet he chose to "forget what is behind and press on." This reminds us that spiritual growth requires focus, perseverance, and forward movement...not perfection.
What am I holding on to that I need to leave behind so I can fully pursue Christ?
Be Spiritually Minded in a World That’s Earthbound (Phil. 3:18–20)
Paul contrasts earthly-minded living with the believer’s call to remember our citizenship is in heaven. In a culture driven by status, possessions, and comparison, God calls us to lift our gaze.
Where is my mind most of the time...on heaven’s values or the world’s?
Choose Joy and Peace Over Anxiety (Phil. 4:4-7)
Joy is not circumstantial...it’s spiritual. Paul commands joy while in prison! He also teaches the secret to peace: rejoicing, praying, and thanking God.
“Do not be anxious about anything…” (v. 6)
“And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds…” (v. 7)
Am I letting anxiety steal my joy, or am I guarding my heart through prayer and praise?
Practice Contentment and Generosity (Phil. 4:11-13, 18-19)
Paul had learned to be content in plenty and in want. That contentment led to a life of generosity and trust in God’s provision.
“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” (v. 13)
"And my God will meet all your needs…” (v. 19)
Do I believe that God is enough and will provide what I need? Or am I striving to secure things on my own?
Pressing on in Christ is not about trying harder...it’s about letting go, looking up, and living out joy, peace, and purpose. When we stop chasing perfection and start embracing God's presence, we find the strength to finish the race well.
Lord, help me press on toward You. Teach me to forget what’s behind, find peace in Your presence, and trust You with every need. Let my life be marked by joy and contentment that can only come from knowing You. In Your name, Amen.
Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
