Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light… and find out what pleases the Lord.” Ephesians 5:8, 10
In a world that often normalizes dishonesty, disrespect, and compromise, walking in the light means choosing to live differently. It means living a life marked by respect for others and integrity before God, even when no one is watching.
Walking in the Light Requires Integrity
To walk in the light is to reflect the character of Christ. Integrity is being the same person in private that you are in public. It's not about perfection but honesty, dependability, and sincerity. No matter how much we hide our true selves from others, God sees and knows who we are in the deepest places.
“The fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.” (Eph. 5:9)
Do my decisions behind closed doors align with my faith in the open?
Walking in the Light Shows in Our Respect for Others
Respect is more than kindness; it's recognizing the image of God in every person. Paul follows his call to walk in the light by discussing mutual respect in marriages, parenting, and even workplace relationships (Eph. 5:21-6:9). Sometimes we forget to protect others from what is hurtful because we feel we are right. Sometimes being kind is better than being right. We must be careful of hurting those we love when we feel that we have something to prove.
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Eph. 5:21)
How do I speak about others when they’re not around? Am I quick to honor or quick to judge?
Walking in the Light Means Living to Please the Lord
When we choose integrity and respect, we are not just being "good people"...we're living to please God. This means asking not, "What can I get away with?" but "What would bring God joy?"
“Find out what pleases the Lord.” (Eph. 5:10)
Am I more concerned with people’s approval or God’s?
Walking in the light is a daily decision, a quiet commitment to live with integrity and treat others with respect, because we belong to the Light. When we do, our lives shine in a dark world and point people to the hope found in Christ.
Lord, help me to walk in the light. Let my heart be honest, my words be kind, and my actions reflect Your truth. Teach me to respect others as You have loved me. Strengthen me to live with integrity, even when no one else sees. In Your name, Amen.
Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
