Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read Hebrews 7-8
Head
Can you think of a time you made a promise? Maybe you promised to clean your room or promised a friend you would save a seat for them at lunch. We know promises are important, but they are also easy to break! Just like we’ve been talking about in KXP this past month, we can always trust God’s promises. He never breaks them! In Hebrews 8, God talks about a special kind of promise, called a covenant. A covenant is more than just saying, “I promise.” It’s a deep, strong agreement between two sides. In the Old Testament, God made a covenant with His people through laws and sacrifices. But God’s people kept breaking their part of the deal by sinning and choosing other things over God.
God didn’t give up on them! Instead, He made a NEW covenant, which was an even better promise than before! And this time, it wasn’t based on following a list of rules. It was based on Jesus’ work on the cross.
This new promise says, “I will be your God, and you will be my people.” This new promise allows us to have a relationship with God because of what Jesus has done for us.
Heart
What God really wants is your heart. He wants to be your God! Not just on Sundays or when you’re praying, but all the time, even when we mess up. We don’t have to earn God’s love. Jesus made a way for us to enter into a relationship with our Heavenly Father!
That means you’re never too far, too messed up, or too young to be close to God. He is working in our hearts every day!
Hands
Aren’t you so glad that God has a new covenant with us? Spend time in prayer as a family today, thanking God for sending Jesus to make a way for us to be close to God! Pray something like: “God, thank You for Your new promise. Thank You for writing Your love on my heart. Help me live close to You every day. I know I can trust your promises! Amen.”
