Read Proverbs 20

“Even small children are known by their actions, by whether their conduct is pure and right.” Proverbs 20:11

HEAD

In Proverbs 20, Solomon teaches us that our actions reveal what’s truly in our hearts. This verse means that the way we behave—whether we're kind, honest, or generous—shows the condition of our hearts.

Our actions don’t just reflect what we think; they reflect who we are on the inside.

It’s like when I was little and my grandparents had a garden. I loved checking the muscadine plants for grapes—they made the BEST jelly. If the plant had healthy roots and branches, the grapes would be sweet. But if it were unhealthy, the fruit would be sour or rotten.

In the same way, our actions are the "fruit" of our hearts.

If we’re full of love, patience, and honesty, our actions will show it. If we’re full of anger or selfishness, that’ll show too.

HEART

The other day, I walked into a crowded grocery store because I really wanted to grill a good burger at home. It was packed—people everywhere, in everyone’s way. In that moment, I had a choice: get frustrated or be patient.

The choice you make in those little moments reveals what’s going on in your heart. Are you controlled by anger or guided by patience and kindness?

This verse reminds us that our actions do matter. It’s easy to think that thoughts and feelings are private, but the Bible teaches that they’re deeply connected to how we treat others.

HANDS
  1. Examine your actions—are they showing kindness, honesty, and respect? If not, ask God to help change your heart.
  2. Pick one area to improve this week—be more patient, more helpful, or more honest.
  3. Read Psalm 139:23-24.
Prayer:

Lord Jesus, search my heart. You know my thoughts. If there is anything in me that is not pleasing to You, I pray that I would give that to You. Create a clean heart within me. We want to represent You well, Jesus. Search us. Help us, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
