HEAD

In Philippians 4, Paul tells the Philippians some simple rules to follow in this life: 1. Rejoice. 2. Don’t worry. 3. Be thankful. 4. Pray. 5. Think about good things. He goes on to tell them that if they do these things, some amazing things will happen. They will experience peace and be able to do all things through the Lord, who gives them strength.

HEART

Let’s talk about this strength that comes from the Lord. Remember David and Goliath? David was a boy facing a 9-foot-tall giant. As David approached Goliath, he said, “But I’m coming against you in the name of the Lord who rules over all” (1 Samuel 17:45b, NIRV). With the Lord’s strength, David “won the fight against Goliath with a sling and a stone.” What about Paul, the man who wrote this passage while he was in jail? God gave him strength to continue telling other people about Him, even though he was hungry, dirty, and in chains. Philippians 4:13 tells us that we can do anything with the Lord’s strength. We can face giants, and we can have joy and peace even when times are hard.

HANDS

Think about a time when God gave you the strength to do something difficult. Maybe it was talking to someone new or having a difficult conversation with someone. Maybe you’re going through something hard right now and need the Lord’s strength to help you. Paul tells us in this passage to turn our worries into prayers. So let’s pray:

Prayer: Lord, today, I need your strength to ___________________________________. Thank you for always helping me. Amen.
