Head

Today, we are wrapping up the week with Proverbs 5. Here, we read a warning from a father to his son about staying away from temptation and choosing wisdom. Temptation is when you really want to do something that you know you should not do. It’s like a little voice in your head saying, “It’s ok”, even when you know that it’s not ok and it’s not what God wants. An example would be when you can see your friend’s test answers and you feel like peeking. That is temptation. You were tempted to look and to cheat on the test. Another example might be if your mom says that you can’t have dessert before dinner. The freshly baked cookies are sitting right there, and she would never know if you ate just one before dinner. That is temptation. You knew you shouldn't eat the cookie, but you really wanted to and thought she might not notice. Temptation is not a sin, but giving in to the temptation is a sin. God wants us to make wise choices and avoid people or things that can lead us to sin.

Heart

We are all faced with temptation- even Jesus! In Matthew 4:1-11, the devil came to Jesus and tried to tempt Him three times! Each time, Jesus said “NO!” and used God’s word to answer to devil. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “... God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” God gives us the wisdom to make good choices and avoid giving in to temptation. If you are in a situation where you feel tempted to do the wrong thing, pray and ask God for help, recall your Bible verses, walk away from the situation, or tell a parent or a trusted adult. God is always with us. He loves us and wants us to make the right choices.

Hands

What do you think the hardest temptation is for you? What can you do this week when that temptation comes? Read 1 Corinthians 10:13 again and remind yourself that God is with you and He is more powerful than any temptation that comes your way!

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for loving me, even when I give in to temptation. Please forgive me for when I have sinned. Thank You for giving me the wisdom to make good choices. Help me to use that wisdom this week and say no to wrong choices. I choose Your way! Amen.
