Read Matthew 17

Head

Matthew 17 describes the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain. The Transfiguration was when Jesus' appearance was changed and the disciples saw Jesus for who He really was - fully God and fully man. Jesus shone like the sun! His glory was revealed to his friends, Peter, James, and John. This event reveals that Christ is the Son of God and His role as the fulfillment of the Law and Prophets. This latter role is confirmed by the presence of Moses and Elijah. This spiritual encounter emphasized that we must reflect on God’s power, majesty, and His grace.

Heart

This passage reminds us of God’s presence and sovereignty. Like Peter, James, and John we should be amazed by the divine glory of Jesus. We can find strength and encouragement in knowing that God is with us, guiding and protecting us. Later in Chapter 17, we are reminded that you must have the right kind of faith that comes from God to accomplish great things for the kingdom. The work of the kingdom depends on the power of God, not ourselves. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13)"

Hands

How can we be a part of doing things for God's kingdom? Once we are followers of Jesus, He changes us and gives us the Holy Spirit to help us and guide us. Then we can pray for our friends and family to know the Truth about Jesus too. When we don't know what to do, we can pray and trust God to help us. Take a minute today to pray for a friend who may not know who Jesus is yet.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father – Thank you for being a glorious being worthy of worship and praise. Help us to follow You always for the guidance, power, and belief that Your will be done. Help us to be faithful and obedient followers of Jesus. May You always receive the glory You deserve. In Jesus' name. Amen.
