Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Colossians 4:2-6
HEAD
To wrap up our journey through Colossians, today’s reading finds Paul and Timothy writing to the church at Colossae. They continue to write to these believers, instructing them even from prison chains. The message in these instructions is to remember the importance of prayer and to devote themselves to prayer. They are instructed to pray for Paul and Timothy to have opportunities to reach others they meet with the message of Christ, and to do so clearly, for others to understand this message. The passage calls on them to be smart in how they approach those who have not heard the message and to make the most of every opportunity to share. These conversations should be full of grace and the Word of God, so they are prepared to answer everyone they meet.
HEART
Can you imagine being in prison for telling others about Jesus? We have the freedom to share without worrying about being arrested, but Paul and Timothy are still telling others about Jesus while wearing chains! They continue to teach and challenge the early church without concern for their own situation. Would you be confident to share the Word of God if it meant you might be sent to jail? Do you believe that God would bless you as you shared? Do you understand the power of prayer?
HANDS
God used Paul and Timothy to encourage the Colossians to continue the church’s mission and to instill the importance of prayer. Pray for those you know and those you don’t. Ask God to give you opportunities to go out into the community and show His love.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the story of Paul and Timothy and their strong examples of faith. Thank You for giving us the gift of prayer so we can talk to You. Help us to never take prayer for granted, but as a way to help others to know, love, and follow You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
