Head

Group projects have always been difficult for me. While I enjoy working with people, group projects where the final product depends on multiple people’s contributions really stress me out. I don’t like to admit it, but it’s because I have no control over what others are doing—or if they’re doing anything at all.

Still, there are many things in life that can only be accomplished through teamwork. Spreading the Gospel of Jesus is one of them.

In 1 Corinthians 3:6-8, Paul writes:

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.”

Heart

So, we all have a job to do. God gives each of us responsibilities in His Kingdom. This passage reassures me that it’s not my job to worry about what someone else is doing or how well they’re doing it. My job is to faithfully carry out my assignment. God takes care of the rest.

Isn’t that refreshing? I don’t have to stress or compare or carry the whole weight—I just need to do my part and trust God to bring the growth.

Hands

As a family, plant a seed—or even a small garden! You can plant in a container inside or outside in the ground. Assign jobs so everyone has a part to play: one person can dig, another waters, another checks on it each day.

But here’s the key: No matter how well you prepare or how hard you try, you can’t make it grow. Only God can do that.

That’s exactly how it is in life, at church, in school, and with friends. We do our part, but only God brings the growth.

PrayerGod, thank You for giving each of us a job in Your Kingdom. Help us to be faithful with what You’ve given us. Remind us that only You can make hearts grow. Keep us from comparing or bragging. Instead, help us to serve You humbly. We love You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
