Head
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” What do you think it means when Solomon tells us to guard our hearts? Here, our “heart” means our thoughts, feelings, and the choices we make- who we really are on the inside. If we guard our hearts and let good things in (God’s word, kindness, love), good things will come out. But if we don’t guard our hearts and let bad things in (mean words, bad influences, lies), then bad things will come out. If we do a good job at guarding our hearts from the bad things, there will be plenty of room for the good things!
Heart
Philippians 4:8-9 reminds us to think about good things; things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable, and then put them into practice. What we fill our hearts with will come out through our words and actions. Every day, we are faced with choices that will fill our hearts. We should be careful with what we watch and listen to, choose good friends, think before we speak, read and study God’s word, and pray about our feelings. Protect your heart, choose what is right, and let God fill you with His love every day!
Hands
Take time every day this week and fill your heart with good things. Read God’s word, listen to your favorite worship songs, spend time with God in prayer, show kindness to someone, tell someone about God’s love.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to guard my heart. Please fill my heart, my thoughts, and my actions with Your love and kindness. Allow my actions and words to be full of goodness so that I can point others to You. Amen.
