Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read 1 Peter 3
Head
We are starting 1 Peter today! This book was written by the apostle Peter, who was in the inner circle with Jesus. In chapter 3, Peter tells the believers in exile to be like-minded, sympathetic, love one another, and be compassionate and humble. He goes on to tell them not to repay evil with evil, but to repay it with a blessing!
Heart
Let’s tackle being like-minded first. What do you think Peter means by that? Discuss as a family. What Peter means is that we should have the mind of Jesus. How in the world can we do that?! Well, we can read His Word. All throughout Scripture, we can see examples of how Jesus treated others. We should treat others the same way, and our brothers and sisters in Christ should also treat people the same way. We can also see Him reminding us to be sympathetic, love one another, and be compassionate and humble. When we do all those things, we show God’s love to people. Our actions speak so much louder than our words! We also need to remember not to be ugly to someone just because they were ugly to you. Instead, we should bless them! We should love and bless them because we love Jesus.
Hands
Take a minute to evaluate how you interact with people. Are you showing them Jesus by being sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble? Do you find yourself caring more about what you think than what Jesus thinks? If you’re struggling with any of those things, ask God to change your heart and mind to be like-minded with Him.
Prayer: Dear God, I’m sorry that sometimes my thoughts and actions don’t show others who You are. Change my heart and mind. Tune it to Yours’ so that I can point others to You. Help me to be kind to my friends and not want to retaliate when they do something wrong to me. Help me to bless them and treat them as You do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
