Read Hebrews 5-6
Head
Let’s imagine something silly for a second! What if you never stopped drinking milk out of a baby bottle? No more pizza, hamburgers, vegetables, or ice cream. Instead, no matter how old you got, you kept drinking nothing but a nice cold glass of milk…out of a baby bottle. You’d probably get some strange glances! As we grow older, the things we do change, and we leave behind the things we did as babies.
That’s exactly what a few verses in today’s passages talk about - but not with actual baby bottles and milk. Take a moment to read Hebrews 5:13-14.
These verses use milk versus solid food as an example of spiritual growth. When we first start following Jesus, we’re like babies in our faith. We begin learning the basics of who God is, how Jesus loves us, and what the Bible says. That’s like the “milk” part of faith. And it’s super important!
But just like we grow up in real life, God wants us to keep growing up in our faith, too. Hebrews says that mature believers move on from just the basics and start learning the “solid food.” As we grow up in our faith, we learn the deeper truths about who God is and how to live for Him.
That means we don’t just hear Bible stories—we start to live them. We ask questions. We make wise choices. We trust God even when it’s hard. That’s what it means to grow up in Jesus!
Heart
As we grow and move from spiritual milk to solid food, we don’t just hear Bible stories, but we also start to live out what we learn from God’s Word. We make wise choices and follow Jesus even when it’s hard. Growing in faith isn’t about knowing everything, but it’s about wanting to know God more each day. Think about how you grow taller and stronger by eating healthy food and moving your body. Your faith grows the same way!
Hands
By spending time with God, praying no matter our circumstances, learning from His Word, and trying to follow Him a little more every day, we can put down our spiritual baby bottles and start eating solid food! Think as a family, what is one step you can take this week to grow together spiritually?
Prayer: God, help me mature in my faith. I want to know You more, trust You more, and follow You with all my heart. Help me to crave the solid food of your Word and grow to know you more and more each day. Amen.
