Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Psalms 103
Head
It blesses and honors God when we thank him and praise him in spirit and truth. David wrote this Psalm to prompt his soul to worship God more. David didn't want to praise God halfheartedly. He listed out several reasons to praise God fully and wholly. David knew God's forgiveness in a profound way. He'd been rescued and forgiven by God many times. He was completely focused on the great things God had done and on God's character. In Psalm 103:3-5, David says, "He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle." He goes on describing God's faithfulness to forgive. He describes God as "slow to anger and abounding in faithful love." He also says, "The Lord executes acts of righteousness and justice for all the oppressed."
What a mighty God we serve! He is everything our hearts and minds could ever need or want! He is love, mercy, grace, faithful, forgiving, and compassionate. He is also righteous and just! There are so many reasons to praise God!
Heart
How often are you able to completely focus and let yourself wholly worship God? It is often hard for me to be mentally fully present enough to worship God the way Psalm 103 describes. I am often distracted during a worship service by random things going on in the room or by something else on my mind. I also often get distracted throughout the week and miss out on time alone with God. Psalm 103 reminds me of the many reasons to get still before the Lord and let my soul truly worship Him, focusing on who God is and the great things He's done. Just reading it makes me feel like I can breathe easier, like my load is lighter.
Hands
Read through Psalm 103 again. This time, make a list of verbs (action words) associated with God that describe what he does for us. For example, in verse 3, it says "He forgives".
Prayer: Dear God, I praise You for all that You are and all that You do! You forgive me. You heal me. You redeem me. You crown me. You satisfy me. You are all that I need. I want to worship You wholly. Help me to see and feel Your goodness. I love You. In Jesus's name, Amen.
