Read Revelation 3:14-16

Head

Revelation is a special book that God wanted His disciple John to write for all Christians to read so we can remember that Jesus is King, and He is coming to save all who believe in Him! Today, we read chapter 3, and while John is talking to different churches here, all His instructions still apply to us today. Isn’t that so cool? The same message Jesus gave to John so many years ago is the same for us! Let’s read verses 15 and 16 again.

Heart

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth,” Revelation 3:14-15.

This might make some of you giggle a little - picturing God spewing a mouthful of something, but he wasn’t trying to be funny here. He was trying to tell the church in Laodicea that He saw them following His rules, but doing that without building a relationship with Him wasn’t enough. He wanted more from them. He didn’t want them to just be “good people,” he wanted them to be “His people.” He feels the same way about you and me. Of course, he loves it when we do good deeds, like obeying our parents or following the rules, but He wants us to also make time to worship Him and to spend time with Him in prayer. This shows that we don’t just want to be good; it shows that we love Jesus and want to be more like Him!

Hands

This week, try to be on fire for Jesus! Spend time reading and memorizing this week’s memory verse. Talk to God every day and ask Him to show you how to be more on fire for Him today.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sharing these words with John to share with us. Thank You for giving us the perfect example of how to be on fire for You with Your Son, Jesus. Please show us this week how we can grow closer to You. We want to be more like You, Father. In Your name we pray, Amen.
