Read Romans 12

Head

Romans 12 was written by Paul to the Christian believers in Rome. They met in house churches, which helped us decide to meet that way. Paul called on these believers to be examples to everyone by using the gifts God had given them. They were called to show love at all times and to bless others. He reminded them that we are called to live at peace with others.

Heart

Paul called the Roman Christians to become living sacrifices. I think I would have been afraid that meant I was going to become a sacrifice! But reading further, you realize that the sacrifice is to use your God-given gifts to serve others. We all have gifts, and you are no exception! Stop and talk about what each of you sees as gifts in each other. You may have examples of how you have seen each other use your gifts, or you may have your own examples that come to mind. Talk about times when you have used your gifts…maybe even when someone was not kind to you.

Hands

Make a list of those opportunities you thought of using your gifts to serve others. Try to be specific about someone you want to show Christian love. After you have had this chance to show God’s love, come back together as a family and share what happened. Remember that you are only responsible for your actions and not the other person’s reactions. Reread verse 21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for giving us the example of growing through house churches. We want to be living sacrifices for you so that others will want to know you. Help us to know our gifts and to use them to glorify you. You are an amazing Father, and we love you. Amen.
