Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read Romans 13
Head
In Romans 13, we are told that we should follow those who are in authority. We should obey the rules and laws that are given to us by those in authority. We should not fear those in authority if we are following the rules and doing what is right. All of the other commandments can be summed up in the command to love your neighbor as yourself. This love fulfills the law. We are called to behave decently for all to see so that others will see Jesus in us.
Heart
Talk with your family about who the authorities are in your life. You will make a list that will include parents/grandparents, teachers, coaches, bosses, government leaders, and more. That seems like a lot of people to tell you what to do, but when you follow God’s plan, you will find your life will be fuller. Loving your neighbor means loving all those you encounter and that may sometimes be a challenge. Talk about how you can show love to everyone.
Hands
Make a plan to show love to someone you consider an authority in your life. This may be an act of service that they have not required from you. Share with your family an opportunity you had to let someone see Jesus in you (that’s clothing yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ!).
Prayer: Lord, thank You for designing authority so that we would be able to have an organized way to follow You and grow in our walk. Thank You for loving us and for allowing Your law to be fulfilled by that love. Help us to remain in your light and to behave decently as we wait for Your return. We love You and eagerly await that day, Amen.
