Read Proverbs 27:17

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

HEAD:

Proverbs 27 is rich with wisdom about relationships, character, and how we grow as individuals and families. One of the most well-known verses in this chapter is:

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17, NIV)

In biblical times, blades were sharpened by rubbing one piece of iron against another. The friction made both tools more effective. In the same way, God uses people—family, friends, mentors—to sharpen us, shape us, and help us grow.

HEART:

Take a moment to reflect:

  • Who sharpens me? Who challenges me to grow in faith and character?
  • Do I welcome correction and encouragement—or resist it?
  • Am I sharpening others with grace and truth, or dulling them with apathy and silence?

I’m so grateful to God for placing people in my life, my husband’s life, and my children’s lives who have helped shape and refine us.

HAND:

Who might God be calling you to encourage, challenge, or help grow in wisdom?

Sometimes the person He wants you to sharpen is right in your own home.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for placing people in our lives who help sharpen our faith and character. Please continue to surround our family with those who will shape us. Help us to be people who also sharpen others in love and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
