Read Proverbs 22:1-9

Proverbs 22 is full of wise sayings that help us know how to live in a way that pleases God. He wants us to gain wisdom so we can make good choices, be kind, and trust Him. Let’s look at a few verses and learn how to apply them to our lives.

Head

Verse 1: “A good name is more desirable than great riches.”

A “good name” here means your reputation—what people think about you when they hear your name. Are you honest? Kind? Helpful? The Bible teaches that having a good reputation is worth more than money. God wants us to care more about our character than our stuff.

Verse 6: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

This reminds us that learning the right way to live while we’re young helps us keep doing what’s right when we’re older. God gives us parents, grandparents, teachers, and leaders to help guide us.

Verse 9: “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”

Being generous means giving with joy. It's not just about money. It could mean sharing your lunch, giving your time, or letting someone borrow a toy. God loves a cheerful giver, and generosity blesses both the giver and the receiver.

Heart

When we have a good reputation, it feels great when others say kind things about us.

God loves us so much, and He wants us to live a life that honors Him. He places people in our lives to help us learn how to love, be kind, and make wise choices. When we follow God's way early on, it becomes a part of who we are.

God sees when we share and help others. Giving brings joy to our hearts because we know we’re following His teaching.

Hands

Want to grow a good reputation? Try this:

  • Tell the truth—even when it’s hard.
  • Be kind to everyone—even those who are different from you.
  • Keep your promises.
  • Say you’re sorry when you mess up.

Want to stay on the path God has for you?

  • Listen to wise advice from parents and leaders.
  • Read the Bible and learn from it.
  • Pray and ask God to help you make good choices.
  • Practice doing what’s right, even when no one is watching.

Want to grow in generosity? Try one of these:

  • Share your snack with someone who forgot theirs.
  • Give away toys or clothes you’ve outgrown.
  • Use your time to help someone (like cleaning or writing a card).
  • Save up some money to give to your church or a missions group.

Let’s choose each day to live in a way that honors God and builds a name others respect. Every small step helps shape the person God created you to be.

Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for all we can learn from Your Word. Teach us how to build a good reputation that pleases You. Thank You for having the perfect plan for our lives. Help us to stay on Your path and remember to be kind and generous along the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
