Head

I’ve never been to a desert before—but maybe you have. Living in south Mississippi, I know how hot and (sometimes) dry it can get, so I can imagine what it must feel like in a real desert. When it’s super hot, what’s the one thing we all crave? Yep—water! Water to drink and water to cool off in.

And if there’s no water around, it’s all we can think about. We become desperate for even just a sip. That’s why when David wrote in Psalm 63 about thirsting and longing for God, I can understand exactly what he meant.

Heart

Just like our bodies were made to crave water, our hearts and souls were made to crave our Creator. We were made to be close to Him!

The best things in the world can’t compare to the love God has for us. His love brings joy and peace—even in the darkest times. Just like we actively search for water on a hot day, we should also actively seek time with God. He is always near, just waiting for us to draw close to Him.

Hands

Each day this week, take 2–3 minutes to be quiet and intentionally seek God—just like you’d search for water on a scorching day.

Sit together as a family and thank Him for His love and nearness. Then talk about it:

  • How does spending time with God make you feel?
  • How does it change your day, your mood, or the way you treat others?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for always being near. Help us to want You more than anything else. When life feels hard or we feel lonely, remind us that You are our helper and our joy. We love You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
