Reading Plan:
Acts 9
Our Thoughts:
Have you ever witnessed a miracle? If you have, then you know it leaves a mark on your soul that will never fade. You will be able to recall the most vivid details of the experience you saw unfold before your eyes. The amazing thing about miracles is that they leave you with no other explanation but God. I personally witnessed a miracle of God when my 13-month-old son defied all odds in the medical world and survived circumstances that only 1% of patients survive. The only explanation of his survival, after six weeks of fighting for his life, was the power of God at work. When you see God move in such miraculous ways, the end result is always the same! People acknowledge that Jesus is Lord and their lives are changed forever. This is what we saw with our miracle, and it’s also what we see time and time again in Scripture.
In Acts 9 we see the same pattern of people turning to God and acknowledging him as Lord, because of a miracle they witnessed. First, we see Saul struck blind on the road to Damascus, and his vision restored three days later. Then, a man named Aeneas, paralyzed and bedridden for eight years, was suddenly healed. At the end of the chapter, we find a lady named Tabitha who died and was brought back to life. Each of these instances results in the same thread of reactions. People witnessed the events, believed in the Lord, and the church increased in numbers. The best part that comes with personal experience is knowing that no one can take it away from you. Being a witness to the power of God displayed in someone’s life leaves us with unexplainable confidence in the sovereignty and greatness of God. With this confidence and faith in Him, we are set up to be an instrument that God can use to change the heart of one more person.
Even if you have never witnessed a miracle, there is power in living with the expectation that they still occur. John 6:29 tells us, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” Believing is the work! We have to believe in the power of Jesus to do miraculous things in our lives and watch with expectation until he does. What are you believing in God for today?
More Questions:
What is one experience you have had in life where God was the only explanation?
How can you spend more time working on your belief that God can do anything?
Prayer:
Lord, I know with you all things are possible. Forgive me when my beliefs fail in trusting what you can do. Help me to see your hand at work around me and to trust you more with the situations that seem hopeless in my life.
