It Is Allowed

It Is Allowed

Begin with two minutes of silence and stillness before God.

Revelation 13 can seem quite daunting, and it's easy to get caught up in the destruction and evil portrayed in this chapter. I find it essential to refocus on God and His character while engaging with today's Scripture.

As I read Revelation 13 today, the phrases "was allowed" or "was permitted" stood out to me. These words appear several times throughout the narrative. Though they are small in number, they carry significant weight. While chaotic events are unfolding, they are not happening without oversight. God remains in control. John's vision may depict the future, but it prompts me to ponder why God permits such destruction.

Over my forty years of walking with the Lord, I have experienced challenging seasons, some resulting from my own choices, others from the actions of those around me, and some simply due to living in a broken world. My journey through divorce was painful. Financial struggles haunted me for years, and I endured the heartbreak of losing two babies to miscarriage. I faced cancer, a path I never wanted to walk. Those experiences were difficult, and I wouldn't wish to relive them. Yet, through it all, I've learned that God permits certain things in our lives that ultimately serve our good, even when we can't immediately recognize that good. Those tough moments have shaped me, fostering growth and enabling me to assist others in ways I never imagined.

The Creator of the Universe sees both the beginning and the end of all things. He understands the timeline of existence and the journey of my life. His perspective is profoundly different from mine. I can trust His narrative and His plans for me. Because of my personal relationship with Him, I know He is a Perfect Father, present in both joyful and challenging times. There is purpose in everything He allows.

If you are facing something in your life that feels burdensome, remember that your story is far from over. God loves you deeply, and His plans for you are good, as His Word promises.

Regarding Revelation 13, yes, there are troubling and frightening elements. But take heart—darkness will soon be overcome by The Light. Just wait and see!

Jesus, help us to place our trust in You, especially on days when it's hard. In this broken world, it can feel overwhelming. Remind us of Your immense love, which led You to send Your Son to die for our sins and conquer evil in this transient world. We can trust You with what You allow. Help us to praise You through it all. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Take two minutes to reflect in silence.

Use the S.O.A.P. Method to study God's Word.

  • SCRIPTURE: What stands out to you in today's passage?
  • OBSERVATION: What is this text saying? What is the context? How does it fit with the verses before and after it? Are there any commands, instructions, or promises?
  • APPLICATION: How can you apply this verse to your life? What does this mean today? What is God saying to you?
  • PRAYER: Respond to the passage in prayer. Ask God to help you apply this truth to your life and spend some time listening to what He may be telling you.
