Read Proverbs 29:11

“Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.” Proverbs 29:11

HEAD:

Proverbs 29 offers wisdom for daily life—especially how we respond under pressure. One key verse says:

“Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.” – Proverbs 29:11 (NIV)

God is a God of stillness and peace. In Him, there is no chaos or confusion.

Think about riding in a car. Would you rather ride with a calm driver or someone who explodes with anger at every inconvenience? A calm driver sees the big picture and stays in control.

I recently experienced driving on the wrong side of the road during a trip abroad. I quickly realized I was in way over my head. Thankfully, my sister-in-law took the wheel. She drove like she was born and raised in Britain. Even when a driver angrily gestured at her for driving slowly in the fast lane, she remained totally unfazed.

I hitched a ride with her every time after that—just to soak in her calmness. She brought this proverb to life.

HEART:

After reading Proverbs 29, ask yourself:

  • When life gets stressful, do I stay calm or lose control?
  • As a parent, do I lead with peace or frustration?
  • As a child or teen, do I speak respectfully or react in anger?

Our homes, like cars, can feel either safe and steady—or tense and unpredictable—depending on how we "drive" our emotions.

Proverbs reminds us that explosive reactions are foolish, while calm responses reflect strength and wisdom.

  • Would others feel safe “riding with me” emotionally?
  • God calls us to be peaceful people in a chaotic world—calm drivers in stormy traffic.

HAND:

Here are three ways to build calm into your home:

  1. Pause before reacting. Take a breath and silently pray, “God, help me stay calm.”
  2. Model peace. Parents and older siblings can show what steady leadership looks like when things go wrong.
  3. Create a calm culture. Make your home a place where emotions are acknowledged but never out of control. Talk instead of yell. Listen instead of assume.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for the wisdom in Proverbs. Teach us to be calm in chaos and steady when life feels out of control. May our family be a place of peace where anger doesn’t lead us, and Your Spirit guides our words. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
