Read Psalms 70

Head:

Have you ever had a bad day at school? You did poorly on a test or a classmate was cruel to you or a friend left you out. But you hold your emotions in until you see your mom and then BAM – you let all those emotions out! I know I’ve done that! You wait until you are somewhere you feel totally safe and loved to express what is really going on in your mind and heart. In the psalms, we often see a similar outpouring of honest emotion from the psalmists, reminding us that God is a refuge and safe place for authenticity and vulnerability.

Heart:

I love reading David’s psalms because they are so raw and honest. In these psalms, David is crying out to God – not holding anything back. If you look closely, there is a pattern to many of David’s psalms. First, he tells God about the difficulty he is facing and how he feels about it. Next, he asks for God’s help. Finally, he praises God and expresses his hope and trust in God. I think this rhythm is a wonderful example for us to follow when we are walking through a difficult situation.

Hands:

Take a moment to follow David’s pattern in prayer:

  1. Tell God what is going on in your life and how you feel about it.
  2. Ask God for help.
  3. Praise God and thank Him for His love and faithfulness.
