Reading Plan:
Isaiah 43:1-7

A Savior for Israel. A Savior for us.
Author: Nicole Ruhnke

After reading the Gospel of Luke -- the story of Jesus' birth, life, ministry, death, burial, and resurrection, we have seen God's ultimate redemption plan play out. In Isaiah 43, we read the promise of this plan, which is ultimately the promise and prophecy of the Savior.

Throughout this passage, we see God as Creator and Redeemer. We see the promise of His presence and His heart for rescue. We see His love, His protection, His authority, and His glory.

The promises in this passage allow us to believe we are His and we are never alone. We are created by a loving God and redeemed by Him despite our sinful nature. We can believe our souls are worth rescuing, and He initiated a plan to do just that. We are precious, honored, and loved -- enough for God to move heaven and earth to gather us!

But ... how?

Jesus.

Jesus has always been God's 'plan A' for redemption. From before the beginning, the triune God set His plan in motion to create a people and love them so much that He would rescue them and redeem them back to Himself ...through Himself, by way of His only Son Jesus. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus was God's plan all along to bring redemption for us and glory to Himself.

Isaiah 43 shows us now only why God intended to redeem His people—out of love. But this also shows how—through Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Reflection & Response:

  • Thank God for who He is.
  • Thank God for His plan to redeem His people, including you, through the work of Jesus.
  • Ask God to help you believe His plan, not only for redemption but for your life.

Family Application: God’s Rescue Plan

  • From the very beginning, God had a plan to rescue the world from sin. God’s plan was to send Jesus to rescue us. God did this because He loved us so much, and He wanted us to spend forever with Him. Ask your family how it makes them feel to know that God loves them so much that He would send Jesus to rescue us from our sin.
  • We know that God wants us to have a relationship with Him. Part of having a relationship with Him is having a conversation with Him. Have a conversation with God today in prayer, and tell God thank you for His plan to rescue you. At dinner tonight ask your kids what they are thankful for.
  • As a family, talk through people you know who do not have a relationship with Jesus. Write their names down and post the list in a common space in the house. Commit to praying for those people once a day for the next week as a family and any time you pass by the list in the house. If the opportunity arises share the gospel with the people you are praying for and update your family as those conversations happen. Remember obedience is not determined by the outcomes. Even if we do what God has called us to do, it does not always mean that the results we want to see will happen.
