Reading Plan:
Acts 25
Our Thoughts:
The last part of Venture Church's four-part strategy is Ignite. As a church, we believe that God can use your faith to ignite the faith of someone else. When this happens, there is no limit to what others can accomplish because of the impact that you’ve had on their lives. As we journey into Acts 25, we see Paul's mission is stalled yet again. Despite his setback, he continues his gospel mission and continues to change the world for Jesus.
Through the bleak trials of Paul's life, we see how he began to ignite the faith of those around him. Still, on trial for nothing more than professing his hope in Jesus, Paul leverages his time in jail to witness to anyone within earshot. Those who heard Paul’s message of Jesus were Roman prisoners and Roman governing officials. These were some of the first Roman converts to Christianity.
In this period of history, the Romans are the epicenter of the world. They are the most influential and powerful people in all the world. And somehow, God was able to use a man, on trial for a senseless charge, to share his faith with those who would eventually put their faith and trust in Jesus.
If you fast-forward to around the year 300AD, roughly 250 years after Paul’s imprisonment, you will find that the Emperor of Rome, Constantine, converts to Christianity. This is a defining moment in history. The same ethnic group that took part in Jesus’ execution is now putting their faith in Jesus. And to think, God used Paul to ignite the spark of Jesus in the lives of a few Romans who would eventually create an unquenchable flame of Christianity that would spread to every nation on this planet.
More Questions:
- How has your faith been ignited recently?
- What kind of legacy do you want to leave?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, your love is greater than I can comprehend. It is amazing to be able to trace my faith back to the first century. Thank you for all the people who You have used from then until now to reach me. Give me wisdom and courage to fan into flame my faith to keep this movement of Jesus going. Amen!
